Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q. Will students and staff be required to wear masks at all times?
A. Yes! Governor Murphy recently mandated that students and staff must wear masks at all times, unless medically contraindicated. Command hooks will be placed on all desks to allow the student to remove and hang their mask inside a handled kraft paper bag while drinking water or eating snack. This bag can travel outdoors with students as needed, to allow for a “mask break” or snacking outdoors while social distanced and seated. An instructional video depicting proper donning and doffing of masks will be going out to families ahead of time to allow students time to practice. Staff will receive similar direction.Q. Can students who cannot wear a mask due to documented medical issues be asked to wear a face shield?
A. We have face shields available and would encourage students to wear one if it is not medically contraindicated.Q. If my own child is exposed in their school, do I have to quarantine?
A. No, unless your child becomes symptomatic and/or tests positive. Then you would be considered a close contact of your child and require a 14 day quarantine.Q. If exposed, how long do I have to quarantine?
A. If you are exposed and considered a close contact you would need to quarantine for 14 days. More information is available in the Community Containment Guidelines.Q. WIll it be recommended that staff and students and their families follow the state guidelines and self isolate for 14 days after visiting a high risk area before attending school in person?A. According to NJDOH guidelines it is recommended that persons traveling to a state with a significant spread of COVID-19 self-quarantine for 14 days. NJ Travel Advisory Information
Q. What number of confirmed cases will require the school to be closed?
A. If we receive notice of a positive COVID-19 case the County Health Department would most likely recommend closing the school for one day to allow for adequate contact tracing.Q. Are there HEPA filtration systems installed in our ventilation units?
A. Our ventilation units are equipped with MERV-8 filters, which are the highest quality filters that fit our systems.Q. Since we are relying on parents and teachers to take their own temperature, how reliable will it be?
A. It will be as reliable as honest parents and staff make it. As we know, children are sent to school with Motrin or Tylenol to mask symptoms that would be checked here at school such as fever, runny nose, etc. Information regarding COVID-19 symptoms will be distributed and reinforced with parents and staff.
