Meeting 3 Outcomes Report
Creating a Strategic Plan for the Harmony School District
Thursday, May 14, 2026On May 14th the Harmony School District parents, board members, staff, administration, and community members came together to continue the strategic planning process. The third and final meeting’s topic focused on the development of a broad goal statement and four or so supporting objectives for each of the goal areas. These goals will represent a shared vision for the Harmony School District over the next five years.

The group was provided with an overview of the previous meetings and then the goal writing process was introduced that included the connection to the work from the first two meetings and the components of a goal statement.

Participants were divided into three breakout groups – one group per each goal area:

1. Operations, Systems, & Security
2. Student Achievement & Staff Success
3. Community Engagement and Communication

Each goal area group was tasked with writing a broad goal statement and developing accompanying objectives that reflected the strengths, challenges/opportunities, and visions relative to their goal area from the input received in Meetings 1 and 2.

Small Group Work- The information that follows is a summary of the work of the small groups.

Goal Statement
To create a safe and sustainable learning environment by proactively addressing potential safety concerns.
Objectives

1. To add a blue light system that alerts staff without alerting an intruder.
2. To ensure blinds can be closed properly.
3. To ensure walkie-talkies work consistently or a system to ensure they are charging.
4. To look into finding a non-public station for walkie-talkies.

Goal Area- Student Achievement and Staff Success
Goal Statement
Improve student achievement and overall student success by fostering a collaborative culture of continuous staff development, data-driven instruction, and rigorous teaching practices so that all students receive high quality instruction, individualized support, and meaningful opportunities for academic and personal growth.
Objectives

1. Continuously strengthen instructional practices through professional development and collaboration
2. Support student engagement and success through a variety of content areas and extra-curricular opportunities
3. Continuously monitor efficacy of practices through developing measurable instructional goals and staff self-reflection.
4. Support staff in implementing culturally responsive and student-centered instructional practices.

Goal Area- Community Engagement and Communication
Goal Statement
To strengthen community engagement and communication by encouraging and supporting events and gatherings throughout Harmony Township that fosters meaningful connections, promote collaboration, and build positive relationships between the school district and community.
Objectives

1. Community newsletter 2x per year utilize our Facebook and Instagram
2. Include retirees, homeschool community, new parents of young children and babies.
3. Invite Harmony veterans on Veterans Day for a special occasion and breakfast.  Students can also invite a family member that is a veteran.
4. Host retirees at play rehearsal for a preview. Host snacks afterwards. Host playground day at rec field student letter writing program between students and retirees/senior citizens.

Next Steps
The administration/staff will develop action plans to accomplish the goals/objectives. A final report summarizing the plan will be generated by New Jersey School Boards and presented at an upcoming Board of Education meeting for consideration by the Board. All participants and interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the strategic planning process. The outcome of the plan has been shaped by the input of every participating member. The district has been provided with a five-year roadmap that reflects the aspirations of the various stakeholders for the Harmony School District’s students.
